Artist Spotlight: Chris De Burgh

If you attended a school dance in the ’80s or ’90s, it’s safe to assume you swayed awkwardly to the soft-rock slow-jam “The Lady In Red” by Chris De Burgh.  Now, chances are, you probably consider “The Lady In Red” just a nugget of romantic nostalgia from a one-hit wonder.  Well, allow me to blow your mind.  Did you know Chris De Burgh has released 18 studio albums over his 35-year career?  How about nine compilations, five live records, and eight DVDs?  Betcha didn’t know he had five #1 albums and a dozen top-ten singles.  “Lady In Red” didn’t even happen until twelve years after Chris’s first release.

Before and after that massive hit song, Chris enjoyed the support of an international audience that far eclipsed his home fan-base in the UK.  His early albums sputtered in his native England but picked up serious traction in Brazil, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and Germany.  After “Lady In Red”, his UK audience blossomed, and he continued to notch top-ten albums in Germany and Ireland as well. His music has touched fans in every corner of the globe.

For Chris’s newest studio album, “Moonfleet and Other Stories”, his management tea (Ferryman Productions) has decided to sell the album on CD and digital directly from his website, www.cdeb.com (in addition to traditional distribution channels).  The CD is available via Amazon.de (a.k.a. Amazon Germany) and Asda.co.uk (a major UK retailer), while the digital version can be purchased through iTunes and a Topspin buy-button.  Pop quiz: guess which retail channel offers the album to the widest range of countries, has the highest-quality audio formats, and lets Chris keep the largest portion of each purchase?

If you guessed Topspin, you are correct!  Give yourself a gold star and a pat on the back.  For Chris De Burgh fans outside Germany, the US, and the UK, Topspin’s buy-button is the only way to purchase the album directly from Chris’s website — and given his globe-spanning fan-base, that includes a sizable number of people.  Distributing an album across dozens of countries can be a complicated endeavor.  For international artists like Chris, Topspin helps fill in the gaps in distribution and reaches the maximum number of potential customers.  Thanks to Ferryman Productions’ forward-thinking approach, Chris’s fans can get his new music easily, affordably, and in high-quality audio, no matter where they live.  As true-blue music fans ourselves, we know how much that means to people, and we’re glad we can help them connect with the music the love.
