Josh Davis has been producing critically acclaimed experimental hip hop since the mid-1990s. Sadly, that decade and its “90210″ sideburns are long gone. On the bright side, the producer and turntablist better known as DJ Shadow is still very much with us. Shadow is nearly halfway through his North American tour, “Live From The Shadowsphere” and he’s got a unique partner accompanying him on the road: a killer new iPhone app by MobileRoadie with a merch store powered by Topspin! The Store section of the app features a mobile-optimized version of our renowned Purchase Flow, which allows you to order rad gear like the panoramic ‘Entroducing’ cover poster, CDs, T-shirts and more.
Some other cool features of the app include:
- geo-targeted push notifications
- news and Twitter feeds
- streaming “Shadow Radio”
- a fan wall showing a map of users
- the ability to connect with other fans and to add photos and comments live from each show on the tour
- videos
- one of Shadow’s favorite tracks from the DJ Shadow Remix Project: “Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt” remixed by NiT GriT
- a favorites system to bookmark the content you dig the most
- the ability to add events to your personal calendar directly from inside the app
I almost forgot to mention that this snazzy new app won’t cost you a thin dime. That’s right, friends — free as a bird. No need to hesitate…download the goodness now and chill in the Shadow for a few. UV rays are overrated anyway.
Also, if you get the chance be sure to check out one of his shows on this tour. Ben Stokes has been providing stellar visuals to go along with Shadow’s beats. I was fortunate enough to attend the Halloween show here in Los Angeles and it truly was a treat. Scope some photos from the shows at www.djshadow.com/tour.

So good to see artists finding new ways to reach out to their fans directly. I saw DJ Shadow on tour recently too. The Shadowsphere he played inside of amazing. Highly recommended.
