whoa…deja vu’. seems like I was just here. welcome back dreamers!!
In our long standing tradition of FREE Music Friday, I’m stoked to bring you music – FROM THE PEOPLE.
A litte history – up til now, we’ve curated FMF internally – bringing you some of the best campaigns and shedding a light on things we’ve either worked on, or campaigns that have been brought to our attn. Well, a few weeks ago, we decided to open things up to y’all directly and let you submit songs for FMF directly through the new Community Forum (Thanks Brad!).
So, welcome to the inaugural Community Forum’s FREE Music Friday. I hope you enjoy! (*quick note: the music that is auto playing is from Erasmo Carlos’ E4M, ‘Kamasutra’. If you scroll over it, you can pause the tune! I do recommend a good listen, but on your terms.)
For the last few wk or so, it seems that everywhere we turn, MyNameIsJohnMichael, is getting love from industry, fans and media alike. Paste Magazine recently said, “…like their name, which includes five words packed into one single-word title, this New Orleans-based rock ensemble packs a punch that can’t be ignored. Carrying the name of frontman John Michael Rouchell, this seven-piece outfit combines a vibrant blend of indie-rock infectious and a Louisiana-inspired brass bombast that speaks to their local roots.
We got a hold of ‘Orphan’ a few weeks ago and our own @bobmoz, can’t seem to get enough.

Grab ‘Orphan’ for yourself and let us know what you think. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, btw.
I don’t remember what year it was (’98, maybe?), but I can tell you the first time I heard Burlap To Cashmere, I was hooked. During the mid-late 90′s, Burlap to Cashmere was a force to be reckoned with on the touring circuit and their critically acclaimed release, ‘Anybody Out There?’ won them a Dove Award and legions of fans across the country. For me, it was the blend of brilliant songwriting driven by powerful musicianship and a real concentration on rhythm and melody that made me such a huge fan. It is quite easily one of my favorite musical “discoveries”. But then, at what seemed to be the pinnacle of their career – they went silent….for nearly a decade! On their first album since, Burlap to Cashmere has DEFINITELY returned; drawing from all the influences that made it a touchstone band in the firstplace: Mediterranean and Greek rhythms, flamenco and classic American folk – and created a rich body of work that embraces the past while crystallizing its new creative vision. The new, self-titled album, makes its way into the marketplace on Tuesday, 7/19, so do yourself a favor and grab one. You can grab ‘Build A Wall’ right here:
Next up, we’ll keep the world music flair alive and well and travel to Brazil for our first ever Brazilian Free Music Friday courtesy of the legendary Brazilian rock icon (and apparent afficianado of all things ‘of the flesh’!)Erasmo Carlos. To quote our good friend, Guilherme, “Erasmo just celebrated 50 years on the road playing Rock n’Roll. Brazil’s Rock n’Roll history can’t be told without talking about him and the Jovem Guarda Period. Last year he was the composer that got most revenue from copyright music in the entire country!” whoa. Get your Karmasutra on below.
Next up, we travel to SoCal and shed some light on King Fantastic. For the uninitiated, King Fantastic is a hip hop duo from Los Angeles, CA consisting of rapper Killer Reese One and DJ/Producer Troublemaker. Killer Reese One is also one half of LA underground rap duo Bleu Collar. Troublemaker is an internationally known DJ and producer who is also one half of the electronic group Rad Omen, and has remixed and worked with diverse acts such as Johnny Cash, Linkin Park, Matt and Kim featuring De La Soul, and Nina Simone. The first single, ‘Locals Only’ off their new release, ‘Death of Summer’ is available for the hardcore, below. Get You Some!
We move back to the Drrrrty South for our next feature – Nashville’s own, Parachute Musical. For lovers of Ben Folds and Piano driven Indie Pop, you can’t really get any better. And, for anyone who just loves some high energy, upbeat tunes, you’d do yourself a favor to take a listen, as well.
“Impossibly upbeat, Nashville’s Parachute Musical make some of the most entertaining, high energy piano based pop in the country .. pop craftsmanship at it’s finest.”

I don’t know much about Toro Y Moi, but there seems to be a ton of momentum behind this indie project and some serious love from Pitchfork,GorillaVsBear and Stereogum.
