Tribes is a great read – really inspiring – and Terry McBride’s paper is much overlooked but essential stuff. Promises To Keep is (amazingly, given the pace of change in digital music) still relevant and a great read also.
I gave Florida’s “Rise” and “Flight” of the Creative Class as gifts last year! I still have problems with Kusek & Leonhard’s “music like water” fantasy-land presented in “The Future of Music” though…not sold on that one.
I’m happy to say I’m unfamiliar with the others, but given the ones that I DO know I’ll certainly be checking out the others. Cheers Gary!
And:
Chronicles: Volume 1 – destroys all your notions about Dylan
The Cathedral and the Bazaar – history of software plus one of the most important texts about business and commerce
Hostadter and @Andy Weissman’s “Cathedral…” really provoked me
Here’s a few favs (disclosure: some of these I’ve barely cracked into but it’s quite apparent they’re awesome)
Shaping Things: What happens when every Thing has an RFID tag that is linked to the Cloud
Last Night A DJ Saved My Life: The best history of Dj’ing (from radio to raves) EVER. The interview with Grandmaster Flash re: inventing cueing is priceless (and also an incredible case study for democratizing innovation.
Thinking Strategically: Game theory for you and me
Co-opetition: Game theory for you and your business
